~~pp~~ summer of '12 ~~ competition ... week 6

took a TopTen spot and voted Star of the Week

where do 'dirty' photos show best?
On this week's picture perfect competition theme... lol...

 making a dirty living

this photo was taken at one of the largest pottery factories in Cappadocia in Turkey
May 2012

...~~pp~~competition week 4 ... infinite

this one took a TT and then was voted 'star of the week'

Infinite

From Oxford's World Dictionary:

adjective
-limitless or endless in space, extent or size
-too many to be measured or counted
-very great in quantity or degree

INFINITE ~~ LOVE

~~PP~~ 3rd week competition 2012 : translucent ~~

this one took an HM slot

to borrow a phrase, it's gonna be a million degrees heat index today....
so right this moment, out in the sun:  my sun tea...
I love the 'translucent' way it brews from the bottom up
I've got to run some errands, but before I go, I will snip some of
the wild spearmint that grows in the yard, wash it, and let it flavor the tea
tonight, over ice, it will be perfect....
[except for Gator who requires way more sugar than I do]

.~~pp~~ before my time ~~ Summer Week Two ~~July 19th

this one gets an HM slot

remembering my mom
who would remember
her
Kaffee Klatsch days

pouring from this
creamer

into strong steaming Kaffee
using matching cups and saucers
passing Kuchen
and confectionary cakes
laughing with her friends
long
before my time

~~pp~~ summer of '12 ~~ competition Bends & Angles....

july 11th  ~~  this gets an HM slot

Week 1 and the tough themes are here already....

Gator is our host

I give you one of the rooftop views

from our Cave Condo in Cappadocia

while in Turkey in May

the winds of time that  Bends the hills

the hands of man to Angle the homes

~~.pp.~~ mystery textures ~~ green ~~

june 30, 2012

I am sure there are various textures to be claimed about this photo....
use your own imagination..

it's an archived shot, but the colors are NOT edited.....

~~.pp.~~ wk of themes... flaky

Cherie's gone flaky on us.... and while that conjures up
the scent and taste of puff pastries
my texture for flaky will have to be what it is....

~~.pp.~~ wk of themes... shiny

another texture to see if we can shine.... lol

I looked for the shiny penny
and stacked my cook pot lids
I revisited the shining lights of Las Vegas and
stood in the sun eyeing the john deere's all lined up at Lowes

but I ended up playing around in picmonkey
to bring out the already shiny finish on my Saturn...

~~.pp.~~ wk of themes... gooey

a gift of gooey goodness wrapped in gold
a taste of honey from where I used to call home
unopened as yet, never to expire
waiting for cold winter mornings, hot tea and buttered bread....

~~.pp.~~ wk of themes... spiky

here we go with day two of our week of themes....

spiky

taken in Beaufort, NC:

~~.pp.~~ wk of themes... rough

june 22nd ~

A WEEK of themes!
Sometimes it's rough to get one shot up for a weekend....

[add to that some 30 day themes,
themes of lists,
and themes of past posts....]

I can really feel the sense of pulling us all back in to share with each other!

here is a young man,
found about 90 min. into our hike of rough terrain
[this was the oasis area of flat land!]

making a rough living....

taken last month on a 2 .5 hr. hike through a valley in Cappadocia, Turkey

the daily grind, june 8th

some may call a ritual 'a daily grind',
but for some it is comforting ....
and although I don't know what I will eat for breakfast,
or even if I have to go into work that day
 [sometimes 2 hours notice]

in our house,
one thing is pretty much the very same every single day....

 David's breakfast...
one egg - seasoned with garlic powder and ground pepper
on 1/2 a toasted bagel, with butter and 'veggie' cheese

Gator is our host, and please click 'here' - you know the 'grind'... lol....

june 1 '12 ~ .~~ pp ~~. idiom

I haven't played for ages....
 and I've missed it....
so here I go breaking 'rules' right off the bat!

emotionally it's the way I have been feeling
so the photo sums it up perfectly....

Between a Rock and a Hard Place....

my son took this picture of me on our last day in Cappadocia,
we hiked for three hours through the 'Love Valley'
some of the hiking was easy, and some rough, but that is the way life is....

we have a really busy day today,
but I plan to check out all the idioms posted
this evening and during the weekend
[love the theme, Cherie!]

~~PP~~ my ~~ Blast from the Past ~~ April 7th

our Gator has picked a theme with lots of interpretations....

for me the past is not just historic places
but memories...

I told my former mother in law recently
that every time I pick up my cookware,
I remember that she gave me the set
for a wedding anniversary
It's 40 year old Revere Ware ... lol....
I am a saver of things that were given
and
thoughts that mean the world to me....

My brother came to visit last year with boxes
and suitcases of things
from my mom's....

I opened this very old suitcase -
which we used when crossing from
Hamburg to  NYC in 1966....
on the SS Hanseatic.

I found many of my old friends
and many newer ones
that mom loved too....

I recognize a few: betsy wetsy, my shirley temple doll,
a kate kruze doll - a wedding doll named Cindy,
and my larger Penny doll....
there are two dolls there that I bought for mom
she had them around her bed until she died.

52 wk photo ~~ looking up ~~ week 10 ~~ March 8th/12

I'm not up to date on
Kimmie's 52 Week Project
 this week is 'looking up'

[encouraging non-archived shots]

next shot ~ week three ~ March 8th 2012

Next Shot

weekly challenges with only one rule:
no archived shots

Week three challenge from Joanne is to
shoot 'water' in black and white.
I don't normally use that setting on my camera,
so it was a challenge just to turn the dial to monochrome.

Week two challenge is to shoot 'landscape' in wide angle mode.
My son had given me a 10-24mm wide angle lens
that I haven't used much
using Sonny's tutorial as a guide,
I tried to look at the world at a wide angle
noting that at 10mm, the landscape takes quite a 'turn' .. '-'

Week one challenge was to use a macro setting or
lens to capture the current season.
While the daffodils are booming and some of the trees
are starting to bud and my
allergies are kicking in... it is still [the end of] winter...

2/22/12 ~~~pp~~ Austere ~~ fifth week ~~

a little walk on the stark side
no frills
austere

taken outside of the Blue Mosque
Istanbul, Turkey
Aug. 2011

but, it could be anywhere ...

taken with the 7D
confessing to a little shade tweaking
but that's all....

52 wk photo ~~ light ... wk 7 ~ Feb 15th!

seems I am too behind to catch up
[I think I've got 4 out of 7]

no archived shot
tonight
I lit a match to the candle
and turned on my
favorite 'night light'
made of stained glass

I love the light it gives off....
and I figured I needed more than
one source of light...

~~pp~~ far from home ~~ Winter Week Four ~~

this one gets a TT spot....

Heather is our hostess
and the theme is
'far from home'

it has so many possibilities

so I went with this 'cutie'
who,
locked in the 'wilds' of Busch Gardens, Fl.
is very far from home

no color editing/ only cropping
with a little frame from picnik

~~pp~~ faces ~~ Winter Week Three ~~ Feb. 8

this gets a TT slot

Terra Cotta Warriors

a spirit army of 6000+ soldiers
no two alike...

52 wk photo ~~ my favorite thing ... wk 3

any given moment
my favorite "thing"
could be any thing
not possible to list them all

but in the winter
I crave these sweet
little imported
packages of bliss
daily....

52 wk photo ~~ my front door.... Jan 9 '12

 Kimmie's new project takes off...
I love the idea of no archived shots
[even though we can, if we want]
but I love the challenge!

  welcome...
[as long as you are not soliciting, lol]

11/20 ~~~~~pp ~ shutter speeds ~

I'm not sure I've got this right anymore  [the assignment that is....]
and I am easily confused...

Gary has given us some tough homework this week...

Sounds like a lot of you got out to try the lesson,
but I decided to wander through my archives to see if I could
apply the lessons
to pictures
where I deliberately used the settings
to get the affect I wanted...

the first one was a challenge my son put me up to...
[I know Gary's example is a  double exposure]
but this was my first attempt at catching
just the lights of a passing car...

I love the capture of water...
this I one I learned with Gator and Baz
at the Shenandoah Photo Shoot- 2010

and since I figured you must be tired of
eagle shots by now
I used a higher ISO
higher shutter speed to catch the very swift hummingbird

all of the photos were taken with the assist of a tripod
I have since invested in a monopod too....  more lessons to learn...

11/11/11 ~~ ~~~ PP Bokeh ~~ photo effect ~~~

a fine theme from our Picture Perfect hostess, ms. Cherie....

Bokeh...

and while I haven't opened any posts yet {I try never to do that, if I can, until I post}
I can see by the titles, that multiple entries are out there...
so I don't feel so bad that I love to play along with a a few extra of my own...
some you've seen, some maybe not...
 lol...

I only heard that term a couple of years ago,
but once I did, I love to recognize that effect,
most of the time it just happens, and it's a great plus to the photo...
today I went out and did some shooting to add at least one to the mix....
